Work Attire- Long pants are required. NO SHORTS. Short sleeved shirts are permitted, however long sleeves are recommended to help prevent irritation from corn leaves. Cut off shirts will not be allowed. Closed toe 3/4 to hip top shoes or boots are required. Detasselers most commonly wear light tennis shoes and avoid wearing work boots because they tend to be heavy and hot. Rain gear is strongly recommended for the damp corn in the mornings and in the event of rainy weather. Please bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink. We will also be providing additional iced drinking water for employees.
Eye Protection- You will be given eye protection, either safety glasses or side shields for prescription glasssed or sunglasses. You may wear personal sunglasses if approved by management. You must wear eye protection at all times while in the field. You will also be rquired to wear head nets. This is mandatory. Failure to comply will result in a warning, and then disciplinary action will be taken.
Attendance Requirements- If you unable to attend work, notify Brian Olson (718-2017) or Brandon Rosengren (718-5273) at least 24 hours in advance. Brian and Brandon will be the two supervisors you will be working with. Since we have limited space on the bus, attendance is extremely important. Failure to call and not showing up to work may result in immediate dismissal.
We do however work with kids summer schedules. We can and have worked around baseball, softball, cheerleading, summer vacations, driver's education and other work related activities.
Bad Weather- We will work in the rain periodically. We will make the decision to work the morning of bad weather, so plan on working every day. In case of lightning, we will seek shelter on the bus immediately and make a decision to continue working once the storm passes. Please try to purchase rain gear.
Bus Rules- The bus will leave promptly at the designated times from the pick-up points, so being on time is very important. Absolutely no horseplay on the bus will be tolerated. No warnings. No moving from seat to seat while the bus is moving. No throwing garbage out the windows of the bus. You will be financially responsible for any damage to the bus. Make sure that you attempt to clean your feet upon entering the bus.
Field Conduct- Tassel throwing or collection will not be permitted. No horesplay will be tolerated at anytime. When you get to the end of the field, we will turn around immediately or help other employees finish. Adequate breaks are permitted at the bus end of the field only. No standing or sitting in the roads will be allowed. Crossing roadways will be supervised at all times. Smoking will not be permitted. NO EXCEPTIONS.
